Canton Helpline Thanks Community for Continued Support of Food Pantry Following Relocation

CANTON — The Board officers and members of the Canton Helpline wish to thank the community for its continued support of the Canton Food Pantry following its relocation earlier this summer.

The Canton Food Pantry moved in late July to 1860 Washington St., formerly St. Gerard Majella Catholic Parish. The Pantry operates Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:15 – 11:15 a.m., and the first Saturday of each month from 10 – 10:30 a.m.

The Canton Helpline wishes to thank the Town of Canton for designating space for the Food Pantry in its new location. The organization also wishes to thank Mary Murray, Food Pantry Coordinator; Mary Buckley, former Volunteer Food Pantry Coordinator; and the countless volunteers who assisted with the move and continue to keep the Food Pantry operating for those in need.

The Helpline would also like to acknowledge the Canton School Committee for allowing the Food Pantry to be housed in the Rodman Early Childhood Center for 15 years and for its support during that time.

Since its relocation, the Food Pantry has received remarkable support from the community, including many people who donated items at a recent Canton Farmers Market to help stock the shelves in the new location.

The Canton Helpline is a Canton Farmers Market sponsor on Sunday, Sept. 10 for Grandparents Day and will once again be accepting donations for the Food Pantry. The Pantry’s most needed items include: pasta, pasta sauce, canned tomato products, canned tuna and chicken, canned ravioli, macaroni and cheese, rice, snacks, cereals and toothpaste.

The Canton Food Pantry provides free food, personal care items, and household products to eligible Canton residents on a temporary basis. It serves many individuals and families who have been affected by economic challenges and is operated by a coordinator and team of volunteers who wish to help their fellow community members by providing basic necessities.

The Canton Food Pantry is overseen and sponsored by the Canton Helpline, a nonprofit organization that has been in existence for 40 years. The Helpline’s mission is: “Supporting, connecting, and advocating for Canton’s community members in need and providing resources and services including food, transportation, fuel and financial assistance.”

These services include the food pantry, emergency funding (assisting residents in paying utility bills, providing emergency transportation for those who cannot get to medical appointments, Canton Farmers Market vouchers, and other assistance as approved by the Helpline Board), and the Holiday Helpers program, which supports residents with middle school-aged children and younger during the holiday season.

Support Your Neighbors in Need:

The Canton Helpline is seeing increasing needs daily in the community and can only provide necessary services with the generous support of individuals and local businesses.

Bank of Canton Donates $10,000 to Canton Food Pantry

Bank of Canton Donates $10,000 to Canton Food Pantry

Bank of Canton recently donated $10,000 to the Canton Food Pantry, to support the pantry’s vision of providing community members with nutritional food and personal hygiene and cleaning items to supplement their shopping needs.

“The bank’s gift will certainly help us keep our shelves stocked heading into the holiday season,” said Canton Food Pantry Co-Director Mary Buckley. “The whole town has been great with donations, which is fortunate because many local families and seniors are still recovering from the pandemic’s impact. The financial support of community partners like Bank of Canton is greatly appreciated.”

The bank’s $10,000 donation includes the annual proceeds of its Town Card credit card program. For every purchase and cash advance made with a Bank of Canton Town Card, the bank matches a percentage of the transaction amount and sets it aside in a charitable fund.

Special thanks to Isabella Crugnale and Julia Wilkinson for the t-shirt fundraiser to help raise money for the food pantry.
