Annual Report

Thanks to community support, the Canton Helpline is able to confidentially assist thousands of residents annually. Specifically, we help to maintain basic necessities via the Food Pantry; emergency funding for utlities including heat and electricity; and the Holiday Helpers program.

The ability to deliver these critical services is made possible by the generosity of those who believe in our mission.

In addition, referrals are made to Canton’s Department of Elder and Human Services to:

  • Discuss concerns and provide solutions;
  • Identify and refer to support services, health and wellness programs;
  • Provide referrals to appropriate resources.

Below are select highlights and impacts from 2022, all of which require funding:

Supported increased requests for direct services from those in need:

  • $80,024.81 distributed for utility payments, avoiding shut-offs and uncertainty;
  • $28,699.00 paid for rides to medical appointments; and
  • Provided Canton children and families pool passes and “camperships” to Canton Parks & Recreation.

Responded to the rising need for food security:

  • Relocated our Canton Food Pantry and hired a part-time Food Pantry Coordinator;
  • Serviced 2,321 individuals with 11,048 bags of food keeping people nourished; and
  • Funded the Canton Farmers Market Vouchers program to help ensure access to fresh food.
